Introduction:

A. What Do We Mean When We Talk About "Worship Service?"

1. Worship = praising, adoring, giving special recognition.

2. Service = providing to another, helping, assisting, work.

B. Why Do We Worship As We Do?

Body: Acts 20: 7 - 11

I. We Pray (Ephesians 6: 18).

A. We are to be praying at all times.

B. We are to pray for the saints.

C. Pray is how we talk to God.

II. We Sing (Ephesians 5: 19, Colossians 3: 16).

A. We are to speak to one another through songs.

B. It is a means by which we teach and admonish one another.

III. We Partake Of The Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11: 23 - 26).

A. It is the one act of worship shared by all Christians.

1. It is not dependent upon language, such as prayer, Scripture, and singing.
2. It is engaged in by all Christians.

B. It is a reminder of Christ's act of service.

C. It is a public proclamation of belief and acceptance of Christ's death.

IV. We Give (1 Corinthians 16: 2, 2 Corinthians 9: 7).

A. It is a reminder of the fact that God has blessed us with what we have.

B. It is a voluntary desire to give to God.

V. We Hear God's Word (Acts 20: 7).

A. We come together to hear what God has said to us.

B. We come together to gain a greater understanding of what God has said.

IV. We Fellowship (Acts 2: 42 - 47).

A. We share our lives together.

B. We grow closer to each other and the Lord.
