OUR WORSHIP - SINGING

Introduction:

A. Singing Is Also A Vital Part Of Our Worship.

B. Why Do We Not Use Musical Instruments?

1. This is one question other people often ask.

2. It is also a point of argument within churches today.

Body:

I. Some Crucial Beginning Points.

A. What Is Our Standard Of Authority?

1. It might be a person (i.e. Preacher, parent, friend, etc.
2. It might be our own thoughts, desires, or beliefs.
3. I choose to use the Bible.

B. How are we going to understand that standard?

1. In a cautious way – not going beyond what the Bible says.
2. In a lenient way – "if it is not restricted…"

C. Why are we here?

1. To please ourselves and fulfill our desires?
2. To please God and worship Him?

II. What Does The Bible Say?

A. Sing with spirit and understanding (1 Corinthians 14: 15).

B. Sing when you are cheerful (James 5: 19).

C. Speaking to one another (Ephesians 5: 19).

heautou = myself, ourselves, one another.

D. Teach and admonish one another (Colossians 3: 16).

III. But What About…

A. The Old Testament.

B. The argument about silence.

C. Lessons from the Israelites.

D. The Book of Revelation.

Conclusion:

A. Remember – We Are Worshipping God.

1. We are trying to please Him.

2. He wants us to remember that all we have comes from Him…

3. He really wants our hearts to treasure Him above everything.

4. He wants us to present our bodies sacrifices to doing His will.
