THE TEARS OF JESUS

Introduction:

A. There Are Many Passages Of Scripture Which Reveal The Humanity Of Jesus.

B. There Are A Few Which Show The Depth Of His Love For Mankind.

C. Let's Look At Three Examples.

Body: Psalm 34: 17 - 19

I. At The Tomb Of Lazarus (John 11: 33 - 39).

A. We see His sympathy.

1. Hebrews 4: 15.
2. Hebrews 2: 18.

B. We see His love.

1. John 11: 36.
2. John 15: 13.
a. He laid down His life in heaven to come to this world.
b. He laid down His life on earth so that we might go to heaven.

C. We see His sorrow.

1. John 11: 33.
2. John 11: 38

II. Over Jerusalem (Luke 19: 41 - 44).

A. We see His compassion.

1. Jesus could see the misery and pain so many Israelites were in.
2. He could see the anguish and suffering they were going to endure.

B. We see His righteous wrath.

1. Jesus had rebuked the religious leaders many times for their lack of belief and their ungodliness.
2. He wept because their ignorance would lead to their destruction. (Matthew 23: 37)

III. At Gethsemane (Matthew 26: 36 - 39).

A. We see His aloneness.

1. He had preached to multitudes, they were all gone.
2. His closest disciples could not even stay awake.

B. We see His agony.

1. Isaiah 53: 3, 4.
2. Luke 22: 44.

C. We see His betrayal.

1. Matthew 26: 47 - 49.
2. Matthew 26: 56.

D. We see His obedience

1. Hebrews 5: 7, 8.
2. Philippians 2: 8.

Conclusion:

A. Jesus Experienced Sorrow In Many Ways During His Life

B. He Is Uniquely Prepared To Be Our Mediator With God.

C. Is He On Your Side?
