I AM THE LORD

Introduction:

A. The God Israel Knew.

1. He is mighty - defeated Egyptians, parted Red Sea, etc.

2. He is present - could see and hear His presence.

3. He is God - He had shown His power over others.

B. God's Revelation About Himself Through The Law.

1. He is Holy.

2. He is "the Lord."

Body:

I. "The Lord Thy God" [Exodus 20: 1 - 3].

A. Technical Information.

1. I am the Lord used 163 times in the Old Testament (KJV).
2. It is used 73 times in Genesis - Deuteronomy.
3. "Lord" is the Hebrew word "yhwh" which also means self-existent, eternal.
4. "God" is the Hebrew word "elohiym" which also means exceeding, great, mighty, supreme.

B. Israel was to know Him as "the one and only."

C. He was their God.

II. "All Shall Know Me" [Hebrews 8: 10 - 12].

A. God's New Covenant.

1. Israel did not keep their covenant with God.
2. It was made with the people not each person.
3. This new covenant is made with each person.

B. God's People.

1. No need to teach about God (cf. Hebrews 5: 12).
2. All shall know God.
3. His laws will be on minds and hearts.

C. God's Actions.

1. Merciful to unrighteousness.
2. Will forget sin and lawlessness.

Conclusion:

A. Who Is God?

1. He is holy - those who come to Him must also be holy.

2. He is the Lord thy God - His people must know Him as the Supreme, Mighty, Eternal One.

B. Do You Know God?

1. Have you seen His work in your life?

2. Have you turned your life over to Him?

3. Have you kept your vow?
