THE HIGH COST OF A FREE GIFT

Introduction:

A. Have you heard it said, "The best things in life are free?

B. The best thing in this life is a gift!!

1. Talking about eternal life.

2. It is a gift from God Romans 6: 23.

C. Even though, eternal life is a gift...

1. God had to pay a high price to give us this gift.

2. There is a high cost for those who receive this gift.

Body:

I. God’s Gift To Us.

A. A timely sacrifice (Romans 5: 6- 10).

1. While we were weak, Christ died for us.
2. God demonstrated His love.
3. We are saved from wrath and reconciled with God.

B. A peace offering (1 John 4: 9, 10).

1. Jesus was sent so we might have life.
2. God’s justice is appeased by Jesus.

C. This gift is for everyone (Romans 5: 18).

II. The Cost Of This Gift.

A. For the Father.

1. He gave us His Son (John 3: 16).
2. He did not "spare" the ultimate price (Romans 8: 32).

B. For the Son (Philippians 2: 5 - 8).

1. He renounced His glory and majesty.
2. He humbled Himself to servanthood.
3. He died a horrible death.

C. For the Spirit.

1. Dwelling with us (John 14: 16, 17).
2. Makes intercession for us (Romans 8: 26).
3. Endures grief (Ephesians 4: 30).

III. The Cost For Us.

A. The Denial of Self.

1. We live by faith in Jesus (Galatians 2: 20).
2. Give up all to know Jesus (Philippians 3: 7, 8).

B. Accepting Jesus as Lord, as well as Savior.

1. God has made Him Lord and Christ [Messiah] (Acts 2: 36).
2. Jesus takes priority (Luke 14: 25 - 33).

Conclusion:

A. Being A Christian, Means Tremendous Responsibility.

B. Are You Willing To "Pay the Price?"
