Body:

I. Words of Comfort [1 Thessalonians 5: 9 - 11].

A. Our Appointment.

1. We are not appointed to have God's wrath upon us.
2. We are to obtain salvation.

B. Our Life.

1. While we live on earth, we live for Christ. (Gal. 2: 20).
2. If we sleep, we are still alive in Christ.

II. Comforted By God [2 Corinthians 1: 3 - 7].

A. God comforts us in our tribulation.

1. We would have no comfort if not for God.
2. There would be no eternal life.
3. There would be no hope for something better.

B. We are empowered to comfort others.

1. Enduring tribulation prepares us to minister.
2. Our comfort is enduring.
3. Foreknowledge prepares us for tribulation.

C. The Comfort of Christ.

1. Christ has suffered tribulation and received comfort.
2. Christians have suffered tribulation and received comfort.
3. We shall also receive comfort in due time.

Conclusion:

A. The comfort of knowing about eternity.

B. The hope of that which is better.

C. The understanding from seeing beyond sight.
