HAVE THIS MIND

Introduction:

A. Being a Christian.

1. It is one thing to claim to be a Christian.

2. Claiming the name does not mean you are a Christian.

B. How Can We Know For Sure?

1. Matthew 7: 20 = Inspect their fruit.

2. 2 Peter 1: 5 - 11 = Christians have certain characteristics.

3. 1 John 5: 11 - 13 = We can know we have eternal life.

I. A Humble Mind.

A. Equality with God.

1. Not something Jesus did not have already.

2. It is not something we can take for ourselves.

B. The choice of humility.

1. He made Himself an unknown (instead of Creator).

2. He humbled Himself and became obedient.

II. A Serving Mind.

A. Took the form (nature, lifestyle) of a servant.

B. He gave His life for us.

III. A Selfless Mind [vs. 3, 4].

A. We must not seek our own way or glory.

B. We must esteem others as better (does not mean they are).

C. We must look out for everyone's interests.

Conclusion:

A. We Must Choose Our Path.

1. We can resist God like Adam and Cain which leads to humiliation and death.

2. We can humble ourselves and obey God like Able and Jesus which leads to exaltation and God's favor.
