TRUST AND OBEY

Introduction:

A. Would You Have Wanted To Be One Of The Twelve?

1. Living on the road with no real home.

2. Sometimes enduring ridicule.

3. Sometimes enduring hatred and strife.

B. Would You Have Done Their Work?

Body: Luke 9: 1 - 10

I. Given Power.

A. Could drive out demons.

B. Had authority to control them.

C. Able to control disease.

II. Given Direction.

A. Were to preach the kingdom of God.

B. Were to heal the sick.

C. Were to be completely reliant upon God's provisions.

1. Were to have no protection.
2. Were to have no financial provisions.
3. No ability to carry surplus.
4. No food provisions.
5. Only the clothes on their backs.

III. Herod's Desire.

A. Heard about Jesus.

B. Having one prophet arise was "unusual."

C. For two to be close together was perplexing.

D. Wanted to see Jesus.

IV. The Disciples Report.

A. Did return.

B. Told Jesus of their experiences.

Conclusion:

A. Easy To Ridicule Disciples For Mistakes.

1. They made some "bonehead" decisions.

2. Their faith sometimes visibly wavered.

B. A Tough Job.

1. They did without the comforts of home.

2. Often were asked to do and experience extreme situations.

3. They were prepared to follow in Jesus footsteps.
