Introduction:

A. A Series Of Confrontations?

1. Jesus forgiving a man's sins, then healing him.

B. Two Confrontations on the Sabbath.

1. A day of worship and devotion.

2. A day meant to give the people rest.

I. Old Testament Command.

A. Exodus 20: 8 - 11

II. Food For The Hungry.

A. Second Sabbath - confusion as to meaning (possibly meaning the second Sabbath following the Passover.

B. The disciples were hungry.

1. Walking through grain fields.
2. Disciples reaped, threshed and prepared themselves some food to eat.
3. It was not lawful to work on the Sabbath!

C. Jesus Defense.

1. The Example of David (1 Samuel 21: 1 - 6)
a. Leviticus - command about shewbread.
b. That it was even mentioned may indicate it would not have been eaten.
c. The Talmud's commentary stated that the preservation of life superceded other laws.
