Introduction:

A. The Sport Of Fishing.

1. It requires preparation.

2. It requires right location.

3. It requires perspiration.

B. The Same Is True Of Fishing For Men!

Body: Luke 5: 1 - 11

I. A Crowded Gathering.

A. Jesus is being pushed toward the water.

B. People desire to hear Him.

C. Gets into a boat (just happens to be Peter's?).

D. Uses edge of water as protection.

1. The edge was a threat.
2. Now it helps.

II. A Powerful Illustration.

A. Commands them to go fish.

1. Every fisherman's dream? Except after having fished all night with no success!
2. Jesus was confident of their success.

B. Peter's Reply.

1. We have worked all night doing this.
2. We will do it because you say to.

C. The Results.

1. Caught more than they could handle.
2. Peter realized they had been blessed by One greater than they.

III. Their Commissioning.

1. Nothing to be scared of.

2. They would be catching men like this.

3. They gave up everything and followed.

Conclusion:

A. The Application For Today.

1. We must fish because Jesus says to.

2. Often the catch comes when "we have given up."

3. The harvest will be plentiful.
