THEY "KNEW JESUS TOO WELL"

Introduction:

A. Have You Ever Known Someone Who Changed Drastically?

1. Were you ever suspicious about their sincerity?

2. Did you want to know their "real" motivations?

B. Have You Ever Known Someone Who Became Very Popular?

Body: Luke 4: 14 - 30

I. Jesus Returns From Wilderness.

A. Recent Events.

1. Fulfilled "all righteousness" by being baptized.
2. Received verbal and visual confirmation from God.
3. Overcame 40 days of temptation.

B. The Leading of the Spirit.

1. Jesus was filled (v. 1) and the Spirit was powerful.
2. Into the Wilderness for prayer, fasting and temptation.
3. Eventually to Nazareth for scorn and rejection.

II. Circuit Preaching.

A. Have you heard about Jesus?

B. News went everywhere!

C. He taught - they glorified! (Is this a pattern?)

III. Rejection At Home.

A. Teaches at "home congregation."

1. They knew him from His youth.
2. He had never "gone to college."
3. Apparently had never taught in this Synagogue.
4. He is the Savior (Spirit upon, preach gospel, heal...)?

B. Rejection of the Rejecters.

1. He would not heal due to their unbelief.
2. He would go to the poor, lame, blind, but open hearts.

C. They are furious.

1. Why?
a. Because He would not perform miracles?
b. Because He had touched upon their true nature?
2. They want to kill Him?

Conclusion:

A. How Well Do We Know Jesus?

1. So well that we over look Him?

2. So well that we do not pay attention to Him?

3. So well that He does not know us?

B. We Must Never Grow Too Knowledgeable To Learn!
