B. Jesus Is About To Leave The Disciples.

Body: Luke 24: 46 - 53

I. It Was Necessary.

A. Suffering and resurrection.

1. It was foretold in the Old Testament.
2. He was to suffer.
3. He was to die.
4. He was to rise the third day.

B. A message to preach.

1. Repentance in His name.
2. Remission of sins in His name.
3. Slated for delivery to all the nations.

C. Witnesses.

1. Of all that had happened.
2. Of His manhood and His deity.
3. Of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit.

II. The Ascension.

A. A walk to Bethany.

1. The town itself was two miles from Jerusalem.
2. One was considered to be in Bethany, though at the one mile mark on the Mount of Olives.
3. He lifted up His hands and blessed them.

B. Jesus goes to heaven.

1. While He is blessing them.
2. He is parted (reminiscent of Elijah and Elisha) from them.
3. He is carried to heaven.

C. The disciples lives' change.

1. They worship Him and return to Jerusalem.
2. They are filled with joy.
3. They are constantly "at church."

Conclusion:

A. Christ Accomplished The Work God Sent Him To Do.

B. Are You Accomplishing The Work God Has For You?
