I. Pilate Calls An Assembly.

A. The chief priests were there.

B. The rulers were there.

C. The people were there.

D. Jesus was there.

II. No Fault.

A. Pilate examined Jesus.

1. Claimed Jesus misled the people.
2. Interrogation was in their presence.
3. Charges were found to be false.

B. Herod examined Jesus.

1. Jesus was also interrogated by Herod.
2. Charges were found to be false.

C. Chastisement only penalty recommended.

1. Jesus was not guilty of a crime worthy of death.
2. Pilate desired to appease them by scourging Jesus.

III. A Customary Release.

A. Pardon by choice.

1. Was customary to release a prisoner at Passover.
2. People chose who received a full pardon.

B. Voices of hatred heard.

1. They chose a murderer
a. Over the Master.
b. Over a Worker of miracles.
2. Insistent influence.
a. Jesus died "for" their evil.
b. Reason and objectivity were useless.
c. A leader of a rebellion was given freedom.
d. The Leader of freedom was rebelled against.
