I. Introduction [vs. 1 - 4].

A. History

1. Luke was not an eyewitness (v. 2).
2. He was a Greek Physician.
a. Colossians 4: 10 - 15.
b. Uses educated Greek language.

B. Prologue

1. Purposes to write an orderly account.
a. Others have written accounts.
b. Writing so that reader may be certain.
2. Writing to a Gentile - Theophilus.

II. The Announcement of John's Birth [vs. 5 - 25].

A. Parents of High Priestly lineage (1 Chronicles 24).

1. They were obedient.
2. They were "unblessed."

B. Zacharias sees an angel.

C. God is going to bless him and Elizabeth (both well advanced in years).

D. A Missionary from God.

1. Will be a Nazarite.
2. Will turn many to the Lord.
3. Will prepare the people.

E. How Will I Know?

l. An angel's proclamation not enough?
2. No ordinary angel - Gabriel, stands in God's presence.
3. Unable to speak

F. A Lengthy Ceremony.

1. Zacharias was performing a duty which was performed often.
2. The people did not know what was taking so long.
3. He has seen a vision. The Words are Fulfilled!
