A PERFECT PRIESTHOOD

Introduction:

A. Which Would You Rather?

1. To keep having to do something over and over and over.

2. To do it right the first and only time ..

B. Would You Be Willing To Pay A Little More?

C. How Much?

Body: Hebrews 7: 11 - 19

I. The Levitical Priesthood.

A. Paid tithes to Melchizedek (vs. 9, 10).

1. The lesser pays to the greater.
2. While in the loins of Abraham.

B. Did not provide perfection.

1. Sacrifices had to be offered each year.
2. Worship partially based upon fear - removal of sin.

C. Based upon the Old Law.

1. It was annulled (cancelled, put away).
2. It was weak (feeble, sick, without strength).
3. It was unprofitable (useless, without effect).

II. Another Priesthood .

A. Not based upon one tribe.

1. In Judaism only Levites could be priests.
2. Under Melchizedek, priesthood not based upon nationality.

B. It’s power comes from an endless life.

III. A Better Hope.

A. We are made perfect.

B. We draw near to God.

1. He makes us acceptable to God.
2. He brings us to God, instead of going to God for us.
3. He “arranges the summit” which brings us together.

Conclusion:

A. Jesus Paid Our Whole Debt Of Sin.

B. We Are Asked To Give Him Our Lives.
