THE REST TO COME

Introduction:

A. Wouldn't It Be Nice To Have No Difficulties, Troubles, Or Bills To Be Burdened With?

B. If I Told You There Is A Way To Accomplish This, Would You Be Interested?

Body: Hebrews 4: 1 - 10

I. A Promise Remains.

A. The rest has not been entered (3: 19).

1. We need to fear.
2. We must not seem to come short (as Israel in the wilderness).

B. The Gospel has been preached.

1. To them - deliverance from slavery to Egypt.
2. To us - deliverance from slavery to sin.

C. Profitable or not.

1. They did not include hearing the word with faith.
2. The profit in hearing is to be faithful.

II. Entrance By Belief.

A. We who believe enter.

B. The wrath of God denies entrance.

1. God rested on the seventh day.
2. The unbelieving Israel would not enter God's rest.
3. Disobedience kept them from entering.

C. Today - in the present tense.

1. If you hear His voice.
2. Do not harden your heart.

III. Ceasing From Works.

A. God has rested.

1. The Father has rested on the seventh day from creating.
2. The Son has rested from His work of the new creation.

B. We shall rest.

1. Our work in the Lord is that of good works (creating good).
2. We shall rest from all our labors.

Conclusion:

A. There Is A Day Of Rest To Come.

1. A day with no bills, no concerns, no ill health, etc.

2. It is "a day" which will never end.
