SEND THE LIGHT

"One if by land, two if by sea...." I can remember studying about the American Revolution and taking pride in how our forefathers had the courage to change the course of this nation. Yet, if it wouldn’t have been for a few special events, things might have turned out very differently.

The "Midnight Ride Of Paul Revere" was one such event. Because of the warning he spread to his fellow countrymen, they were prepared for the attack of the enemy. The British were unable to make a surprise attack upon the colonies and in turn suffered numerous losses. The future of our nation rested upon a well placed light. If the signal would not have been given, we might still be a British colony today. In the same manner, due to that courageous signal, we are the most powerful and influential nation in the world.

Light is so important to us. Its significance is not easily forgotten, especially during a power outage. It is no wonder that Jesus used the analogy of light to describe our importance as Christians. "Ye are the light of the world..." (Matthew 5: 14).

Today there are many times when it seems like we are candles in the wind. Everything else affects us, making us bend, or move, or change, or even go out. Yet, we are to be the standard bearers by which others can determine what is right and what is wrong. We are to impact others’ understanding of good and evil. In order to be that kind of influence, though, we must first let God’s light illumine our lives. God’s Word must dwell within us, direct us and guide us. Once that has happened His light will shine through us to those around us.
